Tragic Fatal Accident at Clementi Road Junction, Death of 19 Year Old

Yet another fatal accident that caused deep sorrow due to the death of an only daughter.  Ms Kathy Ong, an undergraduate of National University of Singapore , was killed in this fatal accident.

This unfortunate case is yet another cross junction misjudgement.  To speak the truth after seeing so many of these cross junctions tragedy, I kind of think that we should avoid driving into cross junctions if possible.  Most of the fatal accident seems to have occurred from there.  Therefore, it will be good for drivers to avoid a cross junction if possible or at least avoid it during rain or heavy traffic.

The 19-year-old undergraduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS) was killed when she was nearly flung out of the cab which caught into an accident with a Toyota car.  The accident happened at the junction of Clementi Road and Commonwealth Avenue West on Thursday ( April 19) at around 7:30pm.

Five other victims in the cab including the driver were injured and sent to NUH.  The road was congested due to the accident.  All the passengers were NUS students, one was even trapped inside the cab and had to be extricated by the SCDF( Singapore Civil Defence Force).

This tragic accident shocked Singapore with its fatality and also the number of seriously injured passengers.  Traffic police is still investigating this accident.

Some Important things to note at Cross Junctions

  1. Always stay in lane and keep a distance from the on coming traffic when turning.
  2. Ensure that the road is clear before making the turn.
  3. When making the turn check for cars and pedestrians and quickly execute the turn.
