Drink Driving Laws around the World

Drink driving is one of the more serious offence in the Traffic Law.  It is not just Singapore but around the world.  Imagine you are given the trust and integrity to be responsible drivers on the roads and in the end, not only did you hurt yourself but if there are innocent lives being taken in the course of your irresponsibility.   This is how serious drunk, drink driving is being taken as.

Most of the driving instructors will teach you this: Whether it be car or motorcycle.  You are handling a machinery.  Machinery does not have feelings, do not let yourself be controlled by the machine but you should be the one to control your vehicle.

Why is drink and drunk driving treated with so much seriousness and severity:

  1.  When you are under influence of alcohol or drugs.  You are not in the clear mind to control machinery and control your vehicle.  You CAN CAUSE fatality to other innocent road users.
  2. There is no one forcing you to drink and drive.  All motorists with a proper licence has already been informed about the severity of drinking and driving.  If you ignore the severity and go ahead, you will have to bear the consequences with a high price.
  3. There are many other options to go for when you drink, you can take public, get a friend to send you home, or even stay out until you are sober enough.  Going ahead to insist on driving home while you are not in a sober state will only cause danger.

This is also why one reason, the traffic police in some countries are allowed to arrest you once they suspect you are under some influence of alcohol.  This is also the reason why when faced with drink or drunk driving charges, it is almost impossible to refute and also judge will give you the harsh penalty because it is life threatening act.

It is not difficult to see that most countries treat drink and drunk driving as a serious matter.  Minimal penalty is stated here, which means if you go up to court.  The penalties can be even more severe.
