10 Facts about Drink Driving In Singapore

10 things which all motorists should know about drink driving in Singapore:

1.  You are liable to be summoned and charged in court regardless on the amount of alcohol you consume if you are caught red handed by the Traffic Police in Singapore.

2. If you are charged drink/ drunk driving, MAJORITY of the insurance company WILL NOT cover your damages to your car and the third parties’ vehicle.

3. Everyone’s ability to dissolve and absorb alcohol is different.  Does not mean a person take one hour to get sober from one pint of beer is the same for all.  No one is homogeneous.

4. If you are caught causing damages and / or life or property loss to any third party, there is a high chance for you to get custodian sentence ( GO TO JAIL).

5. The higher the level of alcohol content found in your breadth or blood stream, the higher the punishment.

6.  Drink/Drunk driving charges are NO laughing or small matter in Singapore.  Your hard earn licence is going to be suspended for at least a year for all offenders, which means you have to RETAKE the whole Traffic Police Driving Licence Exams.  There is no short cut.  The only short cut is try to find a good private driving instructor.

7.  Engaging a lawyer to fight your court case is NOT necessary, but if your case is serious and you are not law trained, it is better to engage a lawyer to avoid making matter worse.

8.  DO NOT ASSUME that nothing can happen to you as long as you drink and drive home before 12pm on a weekday.  YOU NEVER KNOW.

9.  There are safe alternatives to get you and your car home if you got drunk and that is to engage a valet driver.

10. Court 21 ( the traffic court) is not a playground, when you are caught red handed.  DO NOT try to humour the judge in the court and try to deny.  You could end up with more charges ( more time and money to clear your name).
