Usage of Mobile Devices on Singapore Roads

Booking2

As mentioned over and over again.  When you are driving, please concentrate on the roads.  Make every trip out as if you are still in the driving centre learning how to get that licence.  Why do we need to concentrate and not do other things?

Text and be fined!

  1. SIMPLE RULE, once your eyes are not on the roads, you will get into accident easily.  Do not regret and blame yourself If I had not check that message If I had not called, etc. because the after math is harder to handle that if you could have prevented.
  2. Your vehicle is a potential weapon to kill.  Well, people do die in car accidents.  So do know that you are operating a machine, and a machines has NO feelings.

Usage of Mobile Devices

Any holding of mobile devices ( handphones, electronic pads ) can be found guilty of committing an offence. Basically, items that does not allow you to focus and ” see” the roads are likely to get you intro trouble.

As long as you are holding it when the vehicle is moving, you can be charged

Many times, I had seen and heard stories that :” I did not text while driving” I was JUST holding the mobile to check the map.  Well, if the TP wants to be strict, you can get charged, its only whether a light or harsh sentence.  You can be charged under section 65 for driving without due care.

If the device is mounted

It is not illegal to use a mobile device that is mounted on a holder or dashboard.  As long as the device is not in your hands.  Handsfree is good but if you are not a multi tasker then maybe it is also not good for you as sometimes you will tend to look at the screen of the mobile and lose the concentration.  This can lead to accident.

 Penalties

First-time offenders can be fined up to $1,000 and/or jailed for up to six months. Repeat offenders face up to $2,000 in fines and/or up to 12 months in jail.  Usually Jail term is for offenders who really affect the other road users like accidents or caused injury to motorists or pedestrians.

What about wearables?

With the technology changing all these while, wearing of other types of mobile devices ( glasses etc)will likely to affect the judgement and gauge of the driver.   But if your usage of such devices caused the lives of others or injury, there is a high chance you can be charged and also it will be considered as inconsiderate driving, carrying up to a $1000 fine with or without 6 months Jail term.

What about at the traffic light while waiting for the green light?

NOPE!  That could be worse, because if the person behind your car is also not concentrating, then another potential accident.  You need to move your vehicle fast when the light changes.  No excuses. If anything is avoidable just avoid and get to your next point fast and safe!
