Harsher Laws and Lesser Car Ownership

The crucial reason besides having harsher laws for drink driving offenders have proved to be helpful in bringing down the statistics, extra traffic police operations during festive seasons have also deterred drivers for going to the option of drinking and driving their own vehicle.

Singapore’s expensive price of owning a car have also caused a steady decline in the number of private car owners.  In 2013, there were 540,063 car owners and in 2016 it has dropped to 504,160, a near 30,000 drivers.

Having more options of public transport like Uber, Grab and also more MRT lines coming up could be the main reason for more drivers switching to a less expensive and sustainable transportation option.
