Chinese New Year – Chinatown Festivals

Chinese New Year is round the corner, with the first day on 28th January, many of us will be preparing for the coming of this festive season.

The one place that most of the festive celebrations will take place and shoppers will be busy grabbing the new year goodies, is at Chinatown area in Singapore.  Although we have more shopping malls around the neighbourhood these days.  The avid shoppers will still go to Chinatown to grab the best bak kwa or new year goodies to whip up a good reunion dinner for the family.

If you are going down to the area, do consider taking public transport, like MRT or buses.  The amount of crowd and road closures in the area will get you really frustrated driving through the streets and also finding a parking lot, which can be really challenging.

Do visit the following website:

Information about the road closures can be found here too:

Road Closure Info

In general, most of the smaller roads around the main Eu Tong Sen St will be closed off for the celebrations.  Do take note of it.

Driving to China Town during the CNY Period

If you are driving to Chinatown during this busy period, do try to park your car around the George St area rather than in Chinatown itself.  The Chinatown market carpark is always very crowded and it is difficult to find a place to park along the roads.  Duxton area will also be a good choice for weekend day time.  The night will be crowded with the pub goers.
