Car Free Sunday in Singapore

A project to get Singaporeans off their vehicles and go car free at every end of the month.  Turning parts of our city into a pedestrian and cyclist friendly area, 5.5km of the roads in the heart of Singapore will be closed for this reason.  This movement hopes to push Singaporeans to go car lite or car free, to create a healthier and greener, less congested Singapore.

Time and Zone

If you do not know, the car free Sundays are on the last Sunday of the month, starting from 8am to 12pm.  The areas cordoned off are as follow:

Not only will you get to walk in the city centre freely with no vehicles hindering, there are also many sporting activities like Zumba and get to ride on Personal Mobile Devices like the electric scooter etc for free on trial on that day.  What I notice is there are a lot of cyclists than runners in the Car Free Sundays.  The best part about the car free Sunday is that there are free drinks like Pocari sweat and sometimes, some vendors will give out samples of their products for consumers to try out.  There are also dance and song performances for all participants.

Generally this is a good and cheap way to spend your Sunday morning given the high expense in Singapore these days.  It is also a great way to get the family out for a healthy lifestyle day.
